zkGM from ZKM

Funding Success:

We were delighted to announce a successful $5M Pre-A funding round in November 2023, led by OKX Ventures, with support from Polygon Ventures, Crypto.com, Amber Group, Leland Ventures, Waterdrip Capital, DFG, JSquare, Contribution Capital, and Metis Foundation 🔥

Next Steps:

This funding will advance the development of a unique Bitcoin Layer 2 solution, as the first implementation of our zkVM-based Entangled Rollup interoperability network.

ZKM’s unique design ensures native BTC Multisig script control and decentralized transaction execution, backed by our Decentralized Sequencer network and an 'Optimistic Challenge Process' for off-chain zkVM computations, seamlessly integrated within our Entangled Rollups infrastructure for unparalleled interoperability.

Insights from Leadership:

ZKM CEO Kevin Liu discussed the potential for a general-purpose zkVM to create network effects in his latest article. He revealed ZKM’s approach to Bitcoin L2 development and the importance of extending Bitcoin for unifying liquidity across blockchains 🟠

Bitcoin Asia:

On May 8th, ProjectZKM hosted @Bitcoin Dragonland Fest in conjunction with The Bitcoin Conference Asia, co-hosted by ZetaChain and Rollux.

This was a truly magical evening of networking, discussions, and first-class entertainment. A huge thanks to Iryna from The Metis Foundation for making this event so special!

Following Dragonland Fest, ZKM attended The Bitcoin Conference Asia on Hong Kong, where our CEO Kevin Liu gave a KeyNote and participated in a panel discussion alongside Stacks, Polyhedra and Rollux, discussing how ZKM are leading the innovation for the next chapter of Bitcoin 🟠

‘Conversations with Pavel’ Video Series:

ZKM DevRel Lead Pavel Sinelnikov examined the many use cases for Entangled Rollups in ‘Conversations with Pavel’. You can watch his three part series on the ZKM YouTube channel: youtube.com/watch?v=n9jbVf51UIA

Quantum Entanglement?

Pavel also published an article titled ‘The Quantum Entangled Network’, which is the perfect place to start if you’re looking for a high-level explanation of what we’re currently building at ZKM and the primary ways that we’re looking to utilize our zkVM (zkMIPS).

zkMIPS Series:

We released a comprehensive zkMIPS ‘X’ thread series, examining everything from the basic architecture and practical implementations of our zkVM to the philosophical framework driving its development 🐝

Part 1 - Introduction to zkMIPS: Unpack the core concepts of our zero-knowledge Virtual Machine https://x.com/ProjectZKM/status/1782028923703902644

Part 2 - Proving Architecture: Deep-dive into the technical specifics of the zkMIPS proving process https://x.com/ProjectZKM/status/1783145982823223301

Part 3 - Practical Implementations: Learn about the potential applications of zkMIPS https://x.com/ProjectZKM/status/1783778366824366316

Part 4 - The 'Why' of zkMIPS: Explore the motivations and principles driving its development https://x.com/ProjectZKM/status/1786410098367041568

zkMIPS Presentation by Lucas Fraga:

Pavel wasn’t the only one giving presentations this month. Watch ZKM Senior Researcher Lucas Fraga’s presentation on the zkMIPS Proving Architecture on YouTube, based on his recent blog article: https://www.zkm.io/blog/getting-to-know-zkmips-proving-architecture

Generating Proofs

ZKM Education Lead, Alice Liu, presented a workshop 'Generating Proofs with ZKM' at BUILDH3R 2024, alongside API3DAO, AlgoFoundation, AleoHQ, and Starknet. Alice gave a deep-dive into the vision behind the quantum network and provided a demo for proof generation and verification with zkMIPS, which can be found here: #BUILDH3R | Generating Proofs with ZKM

New Education Hub Module:

Professor Jeroen van der Graaf released Module 3 of his course “A High Level Introduction to Zero Knowledge and SNARKs.” The module covers:

Authentication with Challenge-Response Protocols

Zero Knowledge Proof for Discrete Log

Bit Commitment Schemes

Zero Knowledge Proof for Hamiltonian Circuit

Zero Knowledge Proof for Boolean Circuit

Watch the lectures on the ZKM YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@ProjectZKM and join the discussion on Discord: https://discord.com/invite/projectzkm

Calling All Researchers:

We are seeking innovative use case designs that can potentially be built on top of our Entangled Rollup architecture. Submit your designs on our Discord and link them to our Koris campaign to earn up to 1000 ZKM POINTS: points.zkm.io/zkm/4c970d07-d958-42ed-83d6-9367b35be439

If you're not already taking part in our Early Contributor Program to earn ZKM POINTS, then what are you waiting for? The monthly submission record for Cohort 2 has just been broken, with 30,000 submissions from over 3000 participants!

Quiz Time

We also held our first ever 'Quiz Time' Discord Quiz, testing our community's knowledge on our ‘Entangled Rollups’ design. Congratulations to ‘sukrucildirr’ for coming in 1st place and earning 200 ZKM POINTS in the process. Also, well done to ‘djony’ and ‘CHRISPI’ for finishing in 2nd and 3rd, earning themselves 100 POINTS and 50 POINTS respectively.

Why the Bee?

ZKM Chief Scientist Ming Guo got active on ‘X’, hinting at some of the philosophy that underpins his work at ZKM and its fellow Metis Foundation EcoNodes. If you’re not already following him on Twitter, check out @daceconomy 🐝

Ming also featured in the podcast 'Web3 with Sam Kamani' where he gave his take on blockchain history, his vision for a decentralized economy, and also offered exclusive insights into what we're building here at ZKM.

The WHY of ZKM:

Heavily inspired by the 'DAC Economy' philosophy, ZKM’s Ben Wynn published his big-picture view of ‘The Why of ZKM’, which deeply examines the 'why' behind our commitment to creating a decentralized and open internet, and touches on our ultimate vision for a Self-Sustaining Decentralized Economy.

zkMIPS: What “Security” Means for Our zkVM’s Proofs (Part 2)
Now that we have described the broader questions of ZK proofs security, let’s continue with Question 2. In the analysis of a two-party
Traditional STARK vs Circle STARK
STARK (Scalable Transparent Argument of Knowledge) is a kind of proof system introduced in 2018 by Eli Ben-Sasson and his colleagues, offering better scalability and transparency than traditional SNARK systems. STARK operates by transforming complex computations into arithmetic circuits, which are then represented as polynomial evaluation problems. To conceal intermediate results during computation, polynomial commitments are employed while allowing the verifier to sample and check these results. By applying low-degree extensions, intricate computations are reduced to verifying low-degree polynomials, before the efficient interactive proof protocol, FRI, is used to check if a polynomial has a low degree. This technology has broad applications in enabling privacy preservation and verifiable computations.
